Movement on fire damaged building

City council has received an update on the status of repairs at the fire-damaged former carwash building at 2112-100th St.

City council has received an update on the status of repairs at the fire-damaged former carwash building at 2112-100th St.

The state of repairs at the former carwash, which saw a demolition order lifted in December on appeal, reemerged as an issue at a recent municipal services meeting when councillors Grace Lang and Brad Pattinson raised concerns about the snail's pace of repairs to the building.

In a report at Monday's council meeting, Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk noted he has been in contact with the Calgary owners since the meeting and noted some progress based on his discussions with them.

According to Wintonyk's report, work started Jan. 18 to clean out the fire damaged material inside of the building. Wintonyk also noted in a Jan. 20 memo that he requested they continue with the yard cleanup and tree removal following the removal of the interior debris.

He noted windows and doors have been ordered for the property and should arrive in two to three weeks. A contractor has been engaged for building exterior repairs and is scheduled to begin March 1. Exterior painting will be completed early in the spring.
