Museum volunteer honoured with award

Bob White of Rosetown is the Rivers West District for Sport Culture and Recreation Heritage Volunteer of the Year.

Bob White is thepresident of the Rosetown and District Museum.

He received the Heritage Volunteer of the Year award at the Rivers West District for Sport, Culture and Recreation awards banquet in Neilburg April 24.

White is described as a valuable asset to the museum where he organizes work bees. He often works alone, when other help is not available. Bob organized a community garden on the museum grounds, which went over well. He supervised the summer students at the museum and was well liked by all.

White was also the driving force behind theorganization of a youth centre in Rosetown. He canvassed the community for furniture,games and adult supervision. He also volunteered to supervise at the centre himself.

White is currently on a committee which is attempting to"save the community hall" in Rosetown, as ithas been designated a heritage building. In 2011, White was the citizen of the year for Rosetown, an honour bestowed on him by the Rosetown Chamber of Commerce. Thisdemonstrates that he isalso highly regarded by the town.

White was active, over the last three years, on the annual Harvest FestivalCommittee, acting as the vice-chair. He sits on many committees in Rosetown. He was the president of the Rosetown and District Community Family Centre to co-ordinate services within the town. White has also used his carpentry skills to help Habitat for Humanity, as well as using these talents to help others in the local area.
