Replacement of the CT scanner at the Battlefords Union Hospital began Aug. 8. Installing the new machine, along with renovations to the CT room, is expected to take six weeks. Sept. 18 is the planned date for the new CT scanner to be operational.

The new machine will capture more information than the machines currently used, along with better quality images and less radiation exposure.

A mobile CT scanner will be available at the hospital until Sept. 18.

The new scanner cost $1.2 million. The provincial government provided half the funding, while the BUH raised the other half.

Lloydminster is also getting a new CT scanner. Replacement will begin on Sept. 24, and is expected to be completed on Nov. 5. Lloydminster will receive the mobile CT scanner after the new scanner installation in North Battleford is complete.
