The middle of January is the new target date for completion of the BTC Field House.

In his report to North Battleford's Parks and Recreation Committee Dec. 17, Parks and Recreation Director Keith Anderson reported the revised substantial completion date is now Jan. 16.

Among the work still to be done at the field house is completion of installation of the court floor and the installation of the turf. Protective safety netting is to be set up around the track and bleachers in the new year.

The hope is for the work to be completed by the new target date, allowing the City to take possession. The previous completion date was Dec. 12.

The revised date comes after a site meeting Dec. 11 with contractor Scott Builders. It was there that Anderson got the news the field house would not be ready in time for a planned centennial New Year's Eve event at the facility. That event now is slated for the Civic Centre.

In a news release Anderson expressed his hope the new completion target will be met in time.

"We had hoped to unveil the field house during the 2013 Centennial New Year's Eve Party, but construction delays do happen and it was beyond our control. Hopefully there won't be any further delays," said Anderson in a statement Dec. 18.

Despite some initial disappointment expressed about the shift of the party to the Civic Centre, organizers remain upbeat about preparations and a large crowd is anticipated.

At the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce board meeting Dec. 18, Chamber vice-president Sharon Mohagen reported 470 tickets had been sold.
