MELFORT — Leonard Whitney has been hired by the City of Melfort to take the position of facility manager.

Whitney is expected to start the role Jan. 14.

“I went after the job because, of course, I love the City of Melfort and that was a position that would hopefully allow me to help out with Melfort and make it a better place to be,” Whitney said. “I’m excited to assume the position and get started.”

Whitney was born in Prince Albert and has spent the last 15 years living in Melfort. This is his first government administrative job.

“I was with NAPA-Traction most of that time and then I did work at a couple recreational retailers as well,” Whitney said.

For those jobs he worked in managerial roles.

“I’m a very personable person; I like to get ideas from the community, input and feedback. I like to try to look at the big picture and accommodate as much as I can of people’s opinions and try to better the city.”

For hobbies he snowmobiles, hockey, hunting and fishing.

“Lots of outdoor stuff,” Whitney said.
