New and increased responsibilities were announced Wednesday for Battlefords MLA Herb Cox.

Cox has been named chair of the Crown and Central Agencies CPC and Standing Committee, as well as member of the Crown Investments Board.

That committee is responsible for matters relating to the Crown Investments Corporation, subsidiaries including SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SaskTel and SGI, as well as central government agencies, liquor, gaming and all other revenue-related agencies and entities.

Cox has served as a member of the Crown and Central Agencies Committee since 2011.

Cox accepted his new position in a statement issued Wednesday by the government caucus.

"I am honoured the Premier has given me new and continued leadership roles and look forward to serving the province and my constituents in any way I can," Cox said. "I am proud of our government's record in reducing surgical waits, building and re-building highways, hospitals, schools and seniors homes."

"In particular, I am proud to see progress on our new integrated mental health and correctional complex in North Battleford. This is one example of how growth is giving us the means to invest in infrastructure and people, improving quality of life."

In addition to his duties as MLA, Cox continues as Saskatchewan's representative to the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, a position he was appointed to last year. He also serves as one of the co-chairs for the agriculture working group within that association.

He remains a member of the Caucus Management Committee and a member of the New Ideas Committee.

Previously, Cox served as legislative secretary to the minister of First Nations, Métis and Northern Affairs, and also served on the bi-partisan Traffic Safety Committee that issued a number of recommendations last summer.

The announcement of Cox's new role comes on the heels of a major shuffle in cabinet and legislative positions announced last week by Premier Brad Wall's government, impacting many Sask. Party members of the legislature.

In a statement announcing the appointment, Wall described Cox as a "strong voice for the Battlefords."

"He works hard for his constituents and will serve the province well in these new roles." ?
