The Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre held its fourth annual regional information trade show on July 6 at the Community Gathering Place.

“The purpose of our trade show is to connect newcomers and anybody in the community with good and accurate information directly from the source,” said Jessica Hassman, the summer student who was in charge of events this summer. “So we have all types of businesses and services from the community that came out and they’re sharing what they do and what they offer our community.”

Each of the prospective businesses or services set up their own table display in the hall whereby visitors could stop at each station to acquire information and pamphlets. The trade show began at 2 p.m. and went until 7 p.m. Some of the displays included PARTNERS Family Services, H&R Block, the Community Soup Kitchen and the Saskatoon Muslim Association.

“It was a chance for newcomers to get good information and hear it directly from the staff member. Then there are no worries that the information will be improperly interpreted,” said Hassman. “Any information on financial services or any services that they can use in the community is beneficial. It’s always good to just connect with different services.”
