NFU elects new president

The National Farmer's Union elected a new president at the 44th annual NFU National Convention in Ottawa Nov. 17-30.

Jan Slomp of Rimby, Alta. was elected president of the National Farmers Union by acclamation, while Marcella Pedersen of Cut Knife was elected as NFU women's vice-president.

Others elected to the executive were Ann Slater of St. Mary's, Ont., who was acclaimed as first vice-president (policy); Coral Sproule of Perth, Ont. was acclaimed as second vice-president (operations); Joan Brady of Dashwood, Ont. was acclaimed as women's president; Alex Fletcher of Victoria, B.C. was acclaimed as youth president; and Lisa Lundgard of Grimshaw, B.C. was elected youth vice-president.

The National Farmers Union was founded in 1969. It is a non-partisan, democratic, direct-membership family farm organization. It is the only farm organization in Canada incorporated under a special act of parliament.
