Nine individuals, ranging in age from 12 to 20 years, are facing charges after a Battlefords RCMP investigation into vehicle thefts and break-ins to seasonal residences in the Jackfish Lake area over the last several months.
Police say those charged are all from Moosomin First Nation near Cochin. Seven youth ranging in age from 12 to 17 and two adults aged 19 and 20 are facing 81 charges, which include multiple counts of break and enter to a residence, theft of motor vehicles, thefts under $5,000, unauthorized possession of firearms, careless use and storage of firearms and failure to comply with court orders.
Police say all have been released on several conditions pending their first scheduled appearances in North Battleford Provincial Court through the months of February and March.
Battlefords RCMP are also making the public aware of recent break and enters in the North Battleford and Battleford areas. Typically, entry is gained into residential garages resulting in thefts of property and vehicles. Homeowners are encouraged to secure their residences, garages, outbuildings and vehicles. Exterior lighting and security systems are also great preventative measures, police say.
The RCMP advise residents to report any suspicious activity to the RCMP.
