NIPAWIN — Nipawin’s Remembrance Day ceremony will be held outdoors at the Cenotaph next to the Legion Hall, with a separate, limited capacity indoor laying of the wreaths ceremony happening after.
Attendees are asked to arrive by 10:45 a.m., at which point the colour party will march. The outdoor ceremony is expected to last about 20 minutes, ending shortly after the moment of silence.
After the ceremony ends, Legion members will return inside the Hall along with those wanting to place a wreath. Proof of vaccination or a recent COVID-19 test will be required for entry.
Shauna Grassing, president of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #120, said that while some Legion branches are just laying the wreaths beforehand, the Nipawin Legion felt it was a distinct ceremony in itself.
“We thought it was an important part of our community having people actually come to lay the wreaths, so we decided to do that,” Grassing said. “Our upper hall has restrictions on people and we didn’t want to make that crowded as well— it’s mostly to ensure everyone is safe.”

Nipawin Legion members will be near the four-way stop on Main Street near Family Bakery in the afternoon on Nov. 5 selling poppies by donation.
