NIPAWIN — While the Nipawin Living Forestry Museum will be open during Canada Day, there won’t be any festivities for the second year in a row.

Chuck Low, president of the museum, said that due to COVID-19, the museum can only have 150 people on the grounds at one time. The annual celebration can bring up to 1,000.

“We’re looking at Labour Day weekend doing the things we’d possibly do on Canada Day,” Low said, adding that Labour Day is the last day the museum can use a federal grant they receive for a Canada Day celebration.

“I can’t say we’re going to do everything yet, but we hope to.”

Canada Day festivities in the past have included a steam engine running a saw mill including thrashing and sawing lumber; served food; baking bread in outdoor ovens; shingle making; stationary engines; music; and more.

Labour Day isn’t the only date the museum is looking at for an event, with early organization underway for the third annual Show and Shine car show.

The current date being discussed for this year’s Show and Shine is August 15, pending COVID-19 regulations. A flea market is planned to go alongside it.

Last year’s show had 71 entries.

Details by the museum will be released as the date draws closer.
