A possible resolution in the case against a Loon Lake man charged with several weapons-related offences didn’t materialize as previously anticipated.
Stephane Joseph Leclerc, 50, appeared via CCTV in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on March 26. During his Feb. 20 appearance, the court heard there may be a possible resolution.
Leclerc, and his co-accused, Jolene Nicole Sinclair, 35, was arrested Jan. 18 after Loon Lake RCMP had a complaint from Pierceland RCMP about a suspicious man driving a grey SUV in a farmyard. Police found the vehicle on Hwy 26 north of Loon Lake and tried to stop it but the driver sped away.
Police located the SUV at a gas station in Makwa a short time later and arrested Leclerc, who was driving.
But while an RCMP officer was taking a handcuffed Leclerc to a police truck, Sinclair allegedly hit the officer from behind and knocked him to the ground. Police say she then grabbed a machete, got into the driver’s seat of the SUV and tried to run over the officer. He was able to move to safety and was unharmed.
According to police, Sinclair then tried turning around the SUV and accelerated again towards the officer. She lost control of the SUV and rammed into the side of a nearby gas station.
Police then arrested Sinclair as well. When they searched the vehicle they found three semi-automatic handguns with five loaded magazines, a revolver, bags of ammunition, a machete, a black ski mask, leather gloves, knives, and bolt cutters.
Sinclair was released on bail Feb. 12. She is scheduled to reappear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on June 25 to enter a plea and elect how she wants to be tried.
Leclerc was also denied bail and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Court Provincial Court via CCTV on April 8 to enter a plea and elect how he wants to be tried.
The charges haven’t been proven in court.
