Despite rising waters from the North Saskatchewan River it was not expected that floodwaters will impact on water treatment in North Battleford.

There had been concern raised about Water Treatment Plant No. 1's low-lying location close to the river.

Dan Maloney of the public works department reported to council Monday that the river was expected to peak sometime Tuesday at 2,500 cubic feet per second.

The estimate was for the waters to rise 2.6 meters by Tuesday night's peak, "which will not cause us any production problems."

The only difficulties expected was that it would require larger vehicles to get in and out of the site, he noted. But beyond that no problems were anticipated.

However, concerns remain about the safety of individuals who might venture near the North Saskatchewan on Tuesday. Mayor Ian Hamilton noted city press releases have urged people to stay away from the riverbanks.
