The North East Red Sox continue to roll on as they swept a trio of games last week to push their winning streak to a season-high ten games.

The Red Sox kicked off their week on July 18 when they traveled to Leakos Field to take on the Tigers.

The game got off to a slow start for the Red Sox as they struggled to score runs early but eventually found their groove and were able to pull out a 7-2 win.

Red Sox Devin Gerwing notes the offense was a major concern early in the game, but an adjustment in the late innings paid dividends.

“We started playing a little bit more small ball because we couldn’t get any hits going, so we had a couple bunts, had a couple double steals and that kind of got some momentum going for us and got us a few runs there.”

Gerwing picked up the win on the mound for the Red Sox as he pitched seven innings allowing no earned runs, while Nik Amundrud and Paul Frecon led the way offensively combining to hit 4-for-7 with a triple, three runs batted in, and two runs scored.

After enjoying a couple of days off, the Red Sox returned to the field for a pair of July 23 contests, taking on the Expos in the early game and the Slowtrains in the late game.

The first game against the Expos got off to a slow start for the Red Sox as they struggled to score early runs again, and clung to a 1-0 lead for most of the game.

With the game winding down, the Red Sox offense exploded, breaking the game wide open as they ran away with a 10-1 win.

Being able to put up a number of runs quickly has been nice this year, said Gerwing, who noted the Red Sox are loaded with players who were used to being the go-to guy on their club teams growing up.

“We always know that we’ve got at least nine guys that are capable of putting up a double or a home run at one time. So we always have faith in our sticks that they’re going to come around eventually.”

Logan Casavant picked up the win on the mound for the Red Sox, while Taran Mozun led the way offensively as he finished 3-for-4 with a double.

The Red Sox finished up their week later that evening as they took on the C-Division’s Slowtrains.

After struggling offensively for the majority of both of their previous wins, the Red Sox busted out in a big way as they piled up the runs, picking up a number of big innings en route to a 16-0 destruction of the Slowtrains.

With the Red Sox coming in as the heavy favourites thanks to being a higher division team than the Slowtrains, Gerwing said it was nice to be able to take care of business, noting they got burned overlooking an opponent earlier in the season.

“We kind of learned our lesson to not take anyone for granted and to make sure we’re winning all the games that we should be winning for sure.”

The offense was firing on all cylinders in the game for the Red Sox, but Gerwing noted their pitching was also strong.

“That’s what is most important in a game like that against a C team. You want to make sure you’re doing the little things right, you’ve got solid defense, you’re not making any mistakes, and our pitchers got some work so that was a good game.”

Luc Casavant picked up the win on the bump for the Red Sox, while Nick Peterson carried the offensive load as he finished 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored.

Thanks to their 3-0 week the Red Sox move their overall record to 16-2 on the season, good enough for first place in the Saskatoon Men’s Baseball League B-Division, two games up on the Tigers.

The Red Sox wrap up their regular season with a pair of contests this week as they travel to Stonebridge North on July 24 to take on the A-Division’s Armadillos before wrapping up their regular season on July 30 when they take on the A-Division’s Royals at Leakos Field.
