A Lac La Ronge First Nation woman charged with impaired driving causing death was released on bail after making her first court appearance.

Sandra Halkett, 24, was arrested June 15 after turning herself in.

According to La Ronge RCMP, they had a report of an unconscious man on Queen Street in Lac La Ronge First Nation just after midnight on June 14. When police arrived, they found the man unconscious and he had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle. EMS pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

While police were investigating, they received a report from a woman saying that she had hit someone while driving on Queen Street. When officers went to her home they found a truck with visible front-end damage parked in the driveway. The woman appeared intoxicated and was arrested without incident.

A Saskatchewan RCMP Collision Reconstructionist examined the scene. An autopsy on the victim was done in Saskatoon on June 16.

Halkett appeared in La Ronge Provincial Court on June 18 and was released on bail. Her next appearance is scheduled for July 6 to elect how she wants to be tried.
