OLCN man gets 3 years for hitting, killing youth on dirt bike

LLOYDMINSTER – An Onion Lake man was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison for hitting and killing a 13-year-old youth on a dirt bike.

Twenty-eight-year-old Courtney Cook was charged in connection to an incident on Onion Lake Cree Nation on April 25, 2021. Police had received a phone call that a person was struck by a vehicle in front of a home on Chief Taylor Road. Police and Emergency Medical Services attended and found the youth deceased at the scene of the collision.

Cook was charged with failing to stop after an accident causing death and driving while impaired. In April, Cook pleaded guilty in Lloydminster court.

Cook was also given a five year driving prohibition.
