It has been decided the chairmanship of the newly-formed Planning Committee at City Hall will be filled by the deputy mayor.
A resolution to that effect passed at council Monday.
What it means for the committee is that instead of having one councillor fill the chairmanship for a set term, the Planning Committee chairmanship will now rotate among all councillors throughout the year, depending on who the deputy mayor is.
Right now, councillors take turns as deputy mayor for two months each during the year.
The decision settles the issue of who will chair the Planning Committee from now on. The first Planning Committee meeting, held a week earlier, had been chaired by Councillor Ray Fox, who had previously chaired the old Municipal Services Committee.
Planning takes over functions previously held by the Municipal Services, Finance and Parks and Recreation committees.
