North Battleford city council has given the go-ahead for the City administration to apply for a grant for a pocket housing project.

The project would be under the federal government's Homelessness Partnership Strategy through Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.

The objective would be to provide transitional housing for single persons who have been homeless or at risk of homelessness. The project would not be a homeless shelter but would provide actual transitional housing. Eight units of supportive housing are being contemplated in the project.

It would be the first of a four-phase project. Additional phases would have the capacity to provide housing for small families.

City Hall plans to seek additional capital contributions from the province and will be looking for the assistance of a local agency to operate the facility once it is complete. The City also plans to contribute the land for the project.
