Police working to identify owners of wandering horses

Battlefords RCMP responded to 200 calls for service between Thursday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 20.

Thursday, Nov. 17

2:14 p.m. - Complaint received about horses on Highway 4, between Cochin and Saulteaux First Nation. This is an ongoing issue, as no one can advise the police who owns the horses in question. Police are working with the communities in the area to come up with a solution to this problem. Until a more permanent solution can be reached, police remind motorists to exercise caution on this stretch of highway and heed the "livestock at large" cautionary highway signs posted in this area and elsewhere.

3:16 p.m. - Complaint of break, enter and theft at a residence on the 1900 block of 97th Street in North Battleford, bicycles and tools stolen, among other items. Matter remains under investigation.

4:41 p.m. - Complaint of break, enter and theft at a residence on the 1700 block of 97th Street in North Battleford, likely related to the other break and enter reported on 97th Street, matter remains under investigation.

9:51 p.m. - Complaint of uttering threats received, matter occurred in North Battleford and remains under investigation.

Friday, Nov. 18

8:15 a.m. - Report of break and enter to a seasonal residence on Jeanne Crescent in Cochin, matter remains under investigation.

10:30 a.m. - Complaint received of theft of BUH Foundation fundraising Wishing Well from outside of gift shop at the Battlefords Union Hospital. Wishing Well is described as yellow, large and heavy, containing large amount of cash and coins for this charitable organization. Matter remains under investigation.

11:37 a.m. - Complaint of a historical sexual assault, matter remains under investigation.

12:55 p.m. - Complaint of assault with a weapon, occurred in public parking lot in North Battleford. Investigation resulted in charges pending against a 59-year-old North Battleford man.

1:00 p.m. - Complaint of break and enter to a garage at a residence on the 1800 block of 97th Street in North Battleford, unknown exactly when it occurred, so likely related to the break-ins reported Nov. 17.

5:48 p.m. - Complaint of assault on 99th Street in North Battleford, matter remains under investigation.

8:14 p.m. - Complaint of theft of boat from 103rd Street in North Battleford, matter remains under investigation.

8:44 p.m. - Complaint of uttering threats in North Battleford, matter remains under investigation.

Saturday, Nov. 19

4:37 a.m. - Complaint of break and enter to residence on Moosomin First Nation by two individuals known to the complainant, matter remains under investigation.

9:14 a.m. - Report of break and enter to administration building on Moosomin First Nation, matter remains under investigation.

10:34 a.m. - Complaint of assault on 1500 block of 97th Street in North Battleford, occurred after complainant caught suspect breaking into his car, and on confronting him, the suspect assaulted him and fled. The complainant was not injured by the assault, and described the culprit as a man wearing brown coveralls and a grey cap. Matter remains under investigation.

2:39 p.m. - Complaint of assault with a weapon at residence on Trudeau Street in North Battleford, charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon are pending against a 38-year-old Battleford man.

3:26 p.m. - While investigating the earlier assault with a weapon complaint on Trudeau Street, a male witness in the residence provided a false name to police in an attempt to avoid apprehension on an outstanding warrant of arrest. The man was taken into custody on the strength of the warrants once his true identity was established and new charges of obstructing a police officer are pending against the 23-year-old Battleford man.

3:59 p.m. - Police were called to a family dispute at a residence on the Saulteaux First Nation and on arrival found one of the parties had barricaded themselves inside a bedroom armed with large kitchen knives and was threatening suicide. Police were able to de-escalate the situation through verbal intervention and developing a positive rapport with the subject, who eventually surrendered the knives without incident and voluntarily accompanied ambulance personnel for medical follow-up.

4:17 p.m. - Complaint of break, enter and theft at residence on the 900 block of 106th Street in North Battleford, matter remains under investigation.

5:18 p.m. - Complaint of assault at a residence on the Red Pheasant First Nation, complainant advising that their 30-year-old son came to the residence intoxicated and attacked them. Members attended and arrested the 30-year-old man without incident, matter remains under investigation.

8:53 p.m. - Report of a missing youth from North Battleford, youth later returned of their own accord.

9:23 p.m. - Report of an unknown male subject who appeared to be holding a weapon of some sort yelling at people near a residence on the 1600 block of 101st Street in North Battleford. Immediate police response did not locate any possible suspects and no witnesses located. Matter remains under investigation.

10:18 p.m. - Patrolling members located an impaired driver in the vicinity of Territorial Drive and 100th Street in North Battleford. Care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired and over .08 are pending against a 19-year-old North Battleford man.

Sunday, Nov. 20

5:39 a.m. - Complaint of uttering threats in North Battleford, received via social media and texting, matter remains under investigation.

Police also responded to 21 minor disturbance reports, four false alarms, seven Mental Health Act complaints, 45 traffic related occurrences, 16 minor collision complaints, 17 minor mischief/property damage complaints, 11 false or nuisance 911 calls, five child welfare concerns, one bylaw complaint, 11 breaches of court imposed conditions, seven minor theft/shoplifting complaints, 15 suspicious persons/vehicles complaints and 16 alcohol related disturbances with three culminating in the arrest and detention of intoxicated individuals.
