TISDALE — A province-wide organization that focuses on economic development released a video highlighting Tisdale as a change maker.

The video showcasing Tisdale was released as a collaboration between the Town of Tisdale and the Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance (SEDA).

“Every year they do a callout for communities in the area that are interested in producing a video about their town. Melfort’s done it, Nipawin’s done it, Humboldt’s done it,” said Sean Wallace, Tisdale’s economic development officer. “SEDA arranged everything, because of this Changemaker program they have.”

The previous Tisdale promotional video was released four years ago.

“The purpose was we haven’t had a video for a long time in Tisdale and we’ve had them in the past and we figure with the amount our economy has improved here in the last four years it was time to re-showcase Tisdale,” Wallace said.

The video includes quotes from Tisdale Mayor Al Jellicoe and Wallace, as well as showcases images of infrastructure in the community such as businesses and parks.

“When we decided to do this video we looked at a number of things we wanted to showcase,” Wallace said. “First and foremost we want to showcase the new businesses that have come to town, we want to showcase the existing businesses that have stayed here and contributed immensely to our economy, as well as the activities for people to take part in when they’re not at work, or running their businesses. Things they can do in town as well.”

New businesses in the video include Buy-Low Foods, Tim Hortons and Sobeys. Older businesses include Elements Giftware and Home and the Bee Hive Hotel.

Wallace said the video is for tourism, people considering moving to town and investors.

“If you’re an investor wanting to invest in Tisdale, we can actually showcase it. Guess what, there’s actually a lot to do in Tisdale in terms of extracurricular activities,” Wallace said. “It gives you a good flavour of what the town looks like and the amenities that we have and our goals as our community to keep moving forward as we have been for the last four years.”

So far reactions to the video have been positive, Wallace said.

“I think the video is getting some good traction, it seems to be a lot of shares on it. I’ve had quite a few calls from other communities. I’ve actually had Esterhazy call me the other day, one of their council members, asking if I would come down to talk about what we’re doing in Tisdale and why we’re doing so much better than everyone else.”

“When I first came to Tisdale I immediately recognized the potential here, and we’re going to take advantage of that potential. We have and we will continue to keep moving forward and basically follow our strategies which have proven to be successful for us.”
