RCMP arrest two in Battleford after vehicle theft

RCMP are reporting a vehicle theft that involved the firing of a weapon and resulting in two arrests. Shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, Battlefords RCMP were notified of a reported robbery on the Mosquito First Nation.

RCMP are reporting a vehicle theft that involved the firing of a weapon and resulting in two arrests.

Shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, Battlefords RCMP were notified of a reported robbery on the Mosquito First Nation. 

A suspect armed with a firearm was reported to have stolen a vehicle. 

At least one round was fired by the suspect into the ground during the incident, though no persons were injured.

The vehicle was located and recovered on 33rd Street in the town of Battleford a short time later. 

Police also recovered two firearms from the vehicle. 

Two suspects fled from the car as police initially arrived. 

With the assistance of the police dog services, a search of the area was conducted with was initially unsuccessful. 

Shortly after 10 a.m. one of the suspects was located hiding in a home on 33rd Street and arrested without incident. 

23-year-old Marty Moccasin has been remanded into custody on numerous charges, including robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm X 2, careless use of a firearm, and wearing a disguise while committing an offence. He made his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday, Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.m.

A second 23-year-old male, Jamieson Wahobin, was arrested on the evening of Jan. 6 in the town of Battleford and is also facing a charge of robbery with a firearm.  He also made his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Jan. 8 at 9:30 a.m.

Both Moccasin and Wahobin appeared in court Tuesday morning. Both are remanded by consent and are scheduled to return to court Jan. 25. Moccasin is due to appear by CCTV; Wahobin is set for 9:30 am to appear in person. Police say the matter remains under investigation.
