North Battleford RCMP are advising the public to be aware of a phishing attack circulating via email and the Internet.

Perpetrators are forwarding a false email alleging to be from the Innovation Credit Union reporting to customers there is an error on their account and to avoid service suspension they are to click onto a link and provide personal information.

Police advise this is not a valid request.  The Innovation Credit Union is not sending emails to customers requesting this type of information, nor would this ever be the practice of any bank or credit union when dealing with any account issues, the RCMP advise in a press release.

Several persons have reported receiving the email, but to date it does not appear anyone has disclosed sensitive or personal information.  Anyone who has is advised to contact the banking institution immediately.

If an email has not been received or replied to, the information is not in any danger and will not have been compromised.

Anyone with information about this or any other crime, is urged to contact the Battlefords Detachment of the RCMP at 306-446-1720 or you may call Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), through SaskTel at *8477, or submit a tip online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
