HUMBOLDT — Following heavy rains in Humboldt this past summer, the City of Humboldt has been approved for the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP).

As of Aug. 20, 17 RMs, six towns and cities, and three regional and provincial parks have been approved for funding following community leaders applying for disaster relief eligibility.

Joe Day, Humboldt’s city manager, said he knows of dozens of homeowners that will benefit from the program following heavy flooding on June 14 and June 30.

“If somebody's entire basement was damaged it could be into the tens of thousands of dollars of damage, so if they're able to get an even a good portion of that compensated through provincial disaster funding, it's going to mean a whole lot to them.”

Applicants need to have written and photographic documentation of damage and proof of work done to prevent and clean up damage following the event for their applications. Now that Humboldt is an eligible community, according to an Aug. 25 press release, claimants have six months to apply for assistance and have a year to complete all cleanup, repairs, restorations, and replacements.
