The Western Applied Research Corporation is a producer-based organization that facilitates practical field research and demonstration.

Located at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Scott Research Farm, WARC operates to transfer this technology from research to farm level for the benefit of Northwest Saskatchewan producers, a press release states.

There are seven other Agri-ARM sites located at Indian Head, Redvers, Canora, Rosthern, Swift Current, Prince Albert and Melfort.

In addition to the annual Crop Opportunity and Scott Research Update held early March in North Battleford, WARC also hosts an annual field day at the Scott research farm, set for July 16.

According to WARC, attending the field day allows farmers to become acquainted with the projects and to evaluate the progress of field trials mid-season, while final results are presented at winter meetings.

Provincially funded ADOPT demonstrations, new for 2014, include winter wheat disease and nitrogen fertilizer management, canary seed fertility, chickpea and flax intercropping, vertical tillage, using biofungicide to control sclerotinia and growing tillage radish.

WARC is also featuring the Canola Council of Canada's "Ultimate Canola Challenge," as well as the "Field Pea Input Study" funded by SaskPulse and "Seeding Rates for Precision Seeded Canola" funded by SaskCanola.

For a complete report of projects WARC conducted in 2013 visit www.westernappliedresearch.com.

WARC is also hosting a crop diagnostic school July 22 and 23. Register at www.prairiecca.ca. This is a hands-on field day focused on identification of weeds, diseases, insect, herbicide residues and nutrient deficiency issues.
