ZENON PARK — École Notre-Dame-Des-Vertus in Zenon Park is currently searching for bids for roof renovations.
“You’ve got kids going in there so you want a safe and healthy environment,” said Benoit LeBlanc, the school’s principal.
The work includes the removal on approximately 7,100 square feet squared (660 square metres) of the existing roof system and the installation of a new roof system. The current roof is causing humidity problems for the school.
“So we’re revamping the air system in there and getting the roofs done and it should be good,” LeBlanc said.
This isn’t the only renovation being done to the school, with the school replacing their intercom system.
“We’re also replacing our intercom system, all our phones. There’s quite a few things getting repaired, mostly an update. We lost our bell system due to a power surge this summer so that’s going to be repaired at the same time as we get the infrastructure for our phones.”
The local school board is also in the process of fundraising to make additions to their playground equipment. Currently they are looking at adding more climbing structures.
“We’re also looking into that, we have a certain amount already raised,” LeBlanc said. “We’re going to continue doing some funding to get more in. Last year we renovated a lot of the equipment that was there. Painting, parts that needed to be replaced. We started hauling in some dirt to make a nice hill for the kids to slide on and to climb. A dirt hill and it will be grass-covered, of course. We have the start of a small one but we’re envisioning it to be a bit larger than it is now.”
They are still receiving quotes on the equipment so the funding goal has not been established yet.
“It won’t be done overnight.”
