SARCAN Recycling's 25th anniversary celebrations have kicked into high gear with the announcement that the province-wide recycler will be giving away free Western Red Pine tree saplings for customers to plant in their own back yards.

The campaign falls in line with National Forest Week, Sept. 23-27.

Working in partnership with the renowned Saskatchewan-based company, Ten Tree Apparel, SARCAN has issued a commemorative 25th anniversary t-shirt to its entire staff across the province. Ten Tree Apparel's corporate mandate is to plant 10 trees for every t-shirt sold. SARCAN and Ten Tree have decided to share these very special issued trees with customers, to say thank you, for 25 great years of recycling in Saskatchewan.

"We could have planted the trees pretty much anywhere, in another province, or another country, but since SARCAN Recycling is rooted in Saskatchewan, we wanted these trees to be rooted here too, just like our staff, and our customers," said Amy McNeil, SARCAN's executive director.

"Ten Tree is excited to have the opportunity to pursue such a unique partnership with SARCAN, an amazing organization also rooted in Saskatchewan. Both companies are focused on protecting the environment and what better time to celebrate our shared mandate than National Forest Week," said Derrick Emsley of Ten Tree Apparel.

Each of SARCAN's 71 depots will receive trees to give away to customers while supplies last. SARCAN is asking that only those who intend to plant the tree right away take one home. Those who plant trees are encouraged to take photos with their tree and share it on social media.
