There was a scary incident involving a bus full of school kids Wednesday morning.

According to Battlefords Rural RCMP a school bus with two adults and 12 student passengers on board, left the road and landed in a field about 12 kilometres southeast of Battleford on Wednesday.

The school bus was on its regular rounds. Two of those on board - one adult and one student were transported to hospital with what are described as minor injuries.

In a news release, Battlefords Rural RCMP said they received a complaint shortly after 8 a.m. of a school bus rollover in a rural area south of the Battlefords. Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene near a gravel road southeast of Battleford. When EMS personnel arrived on scene, they determined the bus had not been involved in a rollover.

According to the RCMP release, the southbound bus failed to negotiate a turn and struck a snow embankment beforegoing off road, entering the ditch and remaining upright.

According to eyewitness Marv Diebel, who was at the scene, the incident happened not far from his own residence.

Diebel said his granddaughter had been waiting for the school bus at his residence, and he looked out his window and noticed the bus in a field about a half mile away.

"It's not supposed to be in the field, it's supposed to be on the road," he said.

The eyewitness confirmed there was a bend in the road that the bus travelled on, and that it was right at that point where the bus left the road and landed in the field. Diebel also noted there was snow and not a lot of traction where the incident took place.

The scene drew the full response of the RCMP, the fire department and EMS. Police say the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
