TISDALE — The Town of Tisdale has said they have received several complaints of semi-trucks illegally parked on Highway 3, near the Tisdale Tim Hortons.

“Initially there were a lot of complaints. It seems to be getting better but we still do get complaints about semis parked on the streets,” said Brad Hvidston, Tisdale’s administrator. “[It’s] being a safety issue with vehicles that are trying to enter and exit into the Tim Hortons and Sobeys parking lot.”

Sgt. Wanita Minty, with the Tisdale RCMP said part of the problem is that the current signs are facing the road, rather than in the direction of oncoming traffic.

“I’ve watched and what happens is when the semi pulls up to that driveway, that entrance into the Tim Hortons, as you’re pulling out you cannot see the traffic coming,” she said.

“So you’re driving into a blind spot. Then if you get a semi on the opposite side of the road then you don’t even have enough room to get away from another car if you pull out and it’s too close. It can be a real dangerous situation.”

Minty said that the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure are expected to turn the current no parking signs near the Tisdale Tim Hortons to face oncoming traffic later this spring.

“We’ll be enforcing that area. Truckers don’t like it too much because they really want to get their cup of coffee, but unfortunately for public safety they can’t stop there.”
