Sex offender extradited

Lon Patrick Ritzo is back in Saskatchewan to answer to a number of charges. The 64-year-old man had been charged by North Battleford RCMP for possession of child pornography and assault in 2006.

The 64-year-old man had been charged by North Battleford RCMP for possession of child pornography and assault in 2006.

The United States citizen also has outstanding warrants from the Saskatoon Police Service for charges of sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual invitation to touch and uttering threats.

Ritzo was being held in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and has been in custody since December 2009.

Following a joint effort by American and Canadian agencies, including: North Battleford and Saskatoon Provincial Crown Prosecution Service, Saskatoon Police Service, Canada Border Services Agency, United States Department Diplomatic Security Service, U.S. Homeland Security and U.S. Marshal's Service, Ritzo was extradited.

Ritzo was transported by the RCMP F Division Air Services and made his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court March18.

Ritzo was remanded to custody until Monday, March 21, when he had a show cause hearing.
