The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority has announced revenues of $268.5M and a profit of $86.4M for the 2012-13 fiscal year. This represents an increase of six per cent over the previous year's net earnings.
The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Perry Bellegarde said, "From its humble beginnings to its tremendous success in the present day, SIGA contributes to the economic growth of this province, and it is important that we continue this trend in the gaming and entertainment industry."
"The impressive results of the 2012-13 fiscal year is a milestone on SIGA's journey towards building success," remarked SIGA's board chair Felix Thomas.
"I would especially like to acknowledge our past leaders for their vision, as well as the work they have done to make SIGA the successful organization that we are today."
As a non-profit corporation owned by the First Nations of Saskatchewan, SIGA reports its financial and operational performance to its shareholders and the public. SIGA's profits are distributed to its beneficiaries in Saskatchewan, according to a SIGA press release.
Half is shared with the First Nations Trust which is distributed to Saskatchewan First Nation communities. A quarter is shared with regional Community Development Corporations which are situated in the casino locations for local initiatives and 15 per cent is shared with the provincial government's general revenue fund.
"We are pleased to announce that we have produced net earnings of $86.4 million, which makes this the sixth consecutive year that profits have been above $60 million, " says Zane Hansen president and CEO.
