Another stabbing incident has rocked the North Battleford skatepark.

Battlefords RCMP were called Friday, Sept. 3, at 11:3 5 p.m. to the skatepark area next to the Civic Centre after a call came in of a stabbing involving a youth.

According to police, an argument broke out between two youths and had escalated to the point where a 17-year-old male youth stabbed another youth repeatedly in the back with a knife.

Bystanders restrained the suspect until police arrived on the scene. The victim was transported and admitted to Battlefords Union Hospital.

The suspect now faces charges of aggravated assault and assault, and is in custody.

This is not the first time that a serious stabbing incident has happened at the skatepark in the evening hours. Almost two years before, at around 9 p.m. on Sept. 8, 2008, a 14-year-old girl suffered stab wounds to the head, face and neck at the skatepark. A 13-year-old girl was arrested and charged in that case.

That previous incident led to calls for more stepped-up security at the skatepark area, with some suggesting at the time that there be greater adult supervision or an increased RCMP presence there at night.
