The three Sound Cheque Showcase finalists - Princess Dianne David, Jordon Lees, and Alanna Hoesgen - performed at Humboldt Streetfest on Saturday, where the winner was announced. All prizes were vouchers toward new equipment at Center Stage Music or studio time. Third place was Jordon Lees with $400, second was Princess Dianne David with $600, and first place was Alanna Hoesgen with $1,000. The Journal caught up with Hoesgen after the winners were announced.

What do you do when you're not doing music?
I've been a pharmacy student for so long that I've forgone a lot of my hobbies. Now I guess would just be reading, working out, mainly music and being a pharmacist.

Do you hope to continue with music?
For sure. I have my own music that I've written, so I really do want to in the future create a record and actually have something that I can have, just because I have these songs that I've written. So I'm kind of being a pharmacist/musician.

How do you feel about winning?
I'm very excited. I honestly didn't think I'd win, so it's quite a nice surprise. I actually did a little pre-emptive shopping at Center Stage, so I'm very excited to spend this. I'm very thankful for the opportunity and would like to thank everybody else involved.

So you're going with the equipment rather than the studio time?
I think I will. I'll probably get a new keyboard.

What has your overall experience been like in the showcase?
Really great. I thought it was a really cool event. I think it's cool to be able to share the stage with a lot of other performers, and I think it was a really good showcase of talent.
