It turned out there was one more city council meeting left in 2012 after all.

A special council meeting was held Monday at North Battleford City Hall. It was a routine meeting with only one item of business discussed: the awarding of the tender for insurance broker/consultant services for 2013-15.

At the meeting, council accepted administration's recommendation to place the general insurance requirements with Cherry Insurance for that term.

There were two other bidders, Aon Reed Stenhouse and Marsh Canada Ltd.

The price for Cherry Insurance's bid was $355,742, a higher cost than the two other bids. However, the coverage was considered far greater than the others, as explained by administration.

According to a memo from City Manager Jim Toye, the Cherry proposal was recommended because "the coverage is superior in the areas of property and equipment. This 'blanket' coverage protects against inadequate limits on buildings and contents." There were some other considerations as well.

Council members ultimately agreed with the recommendation, with Councillor Trent Houk noting the coverage "pays for itself." The resolution to award the insurance placement to Cherry Insurance carried unanimously.

With that, the special meeting was adjourned, as councillors reconvened immediately to hold their final municipal services committee meeting of 2012. The main item discussed was a city wide storm water system analysis and report presented by Ryan King, senior civil designer with AECOM.

His report identified some of the city's storm flooding problem areas, and presented councillors and administration officials with some options to consider in addressing those issues.
