Students from the area took part in a Farm Safety Days presentation at the Agrivilla in North Battleford recently.
In partnership with the Progressive Agriculture Foundation and the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association, which have provided training to a network of volunteers around Saskatchewan, the goal of the program is to reduce the number of farm/agriculturally related injuries and or deaths.
In 2012, the Ministry of Agriculture announced it was providing SAASE $30,000 per year over three years to co-ordinate farm safety workshops/day camps with SAASE's agricultural societies across Saskatchewan.
The objectives of the program are:
to increase awareness of rural family health and safety issues through education;
to encourage family participation in the day camp and thereby reinforce safe practices as part of everyday farming procedures;
to increase access to a variety of rural safety materials and resources;
to create a long lasting, sustainable project which will be maintained by the community; and
to increase the exposure and visibility of agricultural societies and the Ministry of Agriculture in various communities and regions throughout the province.
