Update: Suspicious death under investigation in Choiceland, youth charged

CHOICELAND - Update, Sept. 27: As a result of investigation, a youth has been charged with one count of first degree murder, Section 235(1), Criminal Code. The youth can’t be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth will make their first court appearance via phone Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. in Melfort.

Background: RCMP have taken one person into custody after a death in Choiceland.

On Sept. 24, at approximately 1:45 a.m. Nipawin RCMP were dispatched to a report of a deceased person at a residence on Railway Avenue East in Choiceland.

Officers and EMS immediately responded. A 37-year-old woman was declared deceased at the scene. Her family has been notified.

Officers took one individual into custody at the scene.

There is no concern for public safety.

This investigation, which is being led by the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit South, is in its early stages. As such, RCMP are unable to release more details at this time. An update will be provided when available.
