The Association of Saskatchewan Realtors has presented grants to six charities in the province and one of them is in the Battlefords.
A $5,000 grant was presented to The Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords at their annual general meeting held April 28 in Saskatoon.
According to the association’s news release, the grant is going to assist the community meal program that provides over 2,200 meals a month to the area’s hungry and homeless.
The grant is from the Quality of Life Legacy Fund, which provides grants to six charitable organizations in Saskatchewan each year and is an initiative supported by the province’s realtors.
Other $5,000 grants for 2016 include:
Forever Friends of Hope Foundation, Qu’Appelle for financial support to those receiving a cancer diagnosis.
Joe’s Place Youth Centre, Moose Jaw for funding for work skills training and youth outdoor adventure opportunities.
YWCA Prince Albert for resource room funding.
Prairie Hospice Society, Saskatoon towards volunteer training for HospiceNow, a pilot providing immediate response to urgent requests for non-medical assistance, as well as support to terminally ill clients and families.
St. John Ambulance Saskatchewan, Regina towards increased training and evaluation for the Therapy Dog Program.
The committee had to sort through a number of applications from across the province this year to make their selections.
“With an ever-increasing number of grant applications – this year we received nearly twice as many as last year— it is a challenge to select only six,” said Shelby Wilk, chair of the ASR Quality of Life committee, in a news release.
“But it also exemplifies the need that’s out there. We’re happy to be able to support these great community organizations that enhance the quality of life in our province, each and every day.”
Bill Madder, CEO of the Association of Saskatchewan Realtors, said the Quality of Life Legacy Fund is one way realtors are able to give back to Saskatchewan communities.
“Our annual fundraiser, which took place on April 27 in Saskatoon, helps to ensure we are able to continue this great initiative,” Madder said in a statement.
“This year we once again exceeded our $30,000 fundraising goal, and added more new builders – those that contribute $1,000 or more directly to the endowment fund — to our ever-growing list.”
