One of the oldest houses in the Speers area had to be demolished.
It originally occupied Rev. John Grenfill's homestead, who in 1903-1904 founded the New Ottawa settlement in the North West Territories. The house was later moved one mile north to become the home of Roy and Ruth Moore.
Roy came to the area in 1906 with his father Edward and brothers to apply for a homestead. Roy received the title to 16-43-11-103 in 1917 and married Ruth Adams in 1919. They had two sons, Wendall and John. Wendall and his son Roy farmed the land for some time.
Now John's son Gordon is farming the land while Robert (Gordon's son) and his family have moved to the exact spot where his great-grandfather's house stood. In 2017, the Moore family will celebrate 100 years on the present location.
