TISDALE — The Tisdale Kinettes have revealed what the new skate park will look like once the two-phase project is complete.
The first phase will cost $130,000 and includes the concrete pad where the park will rest.
“Phase I is three-quarters of what we want to do in the park,” said Mandy Russell, a member of the Kinettes. “This has all been ordered. The money’s in place for this stuff now.”
Little’s Redi-Mix and George Patterson will be responsible for pouring the concrete pad, then the Canadian Ramp Company will come for a day or two either in May or June to place all of the ramps and rails.
The second phase, which the Kinettes still need to raise money for, will be in the $20,000 range.
“We’re hoping we can get another $20,000, $25,000 before the end of the summer,” Russell said. “If anybody wants to do donations, anything over $500 will be on a sign advertising their sponsorship.”
Donors could also provide a certain amount of money to pay for certain pieces of equipment, which will have their name placed on it. A bench that looks like a skateboard goes for $4,130 while a curvy rail costs $1,330.
It’s possible to get a tax-deductible receipt from a donation, as long as that’s done through the town.
The park was designed with input from the local community. At the end of January, a public meeting was held, followed up with a survey. Russell said most of the surveys not filled out at the meeting were done at the elementary school.
“We sent all of the information they gave us on what they’d like to see here to the Canadian Ramp Company and they’ve designed the park based on what our community would like to see come out of it.”
Russell said the Kinettes are also looking at putting in a pump track for the second phase.
The Kinette said when complete, the park can be used by people of all ages, using any type of person-powered wheeled equipment.
“It is something that not just our teenagers in town are going to be using, it will be something that little kids could use with their tricycles and bikes. Adults can use it too.”
