TISDALE— The Tisdale Museum’s Canada Day festivities have been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The museum’s Canada celebration has become a signature event in Tisdale, since starting in the late 1980s.
Cal Farough, chairman of the Tisdale Museum committee said their decision to cancel it was based on the current health regulations, as well as from following the cancellations of other events such as the Calgary Stampede.
“In fairness in the case of safety, that’s why we chose to not continue on with it,” Farough said.
“When this is all over, of course, we’re planning to continue to carry on our Canada Day events as soon as we’re allowed to do it.”
While the July 1 celebrations are cancelled, Farough said there have been discussions within the committee about holding a fall event to make up for it— if health guidelines allow.
“Whether it be a thrashing machine demonstration or something like that, just as a replacement thing,” he said. “If things open by fall.”
Thrashing machines, first created in 1758, were used to harvest grain by beating the plant until the seeds fell out.
