TISDALE— The Tisdale RCMP have responded to 11 COVID-19 related calls over April.

These include both complaints about gatherings over 10 people, as well as complaints about people not quarantining after travelling outside of the country.

Cpl. Mike Benjamin, with the Tisdale RCMP, said that in responding to gatherings over 10, the majority of their job as police officers has been education.

“We educated the people and they dispersed willingly, so we had no more issue with that,” Benjamin said. “We didn’t have any enforcement action at this point.”

He said that if any additional gatherings are held at those households, enforcement action will be taken.

With complaints about people not quarantining after travel, Benjamin said the Tisdale RCMP investigated and found the bulk of complaints were unfounded.

“We went out and talked to the people involved and found out if they were legitimate complaints or not,” he said. “People were self-isolating, they weren’t— or hadn’t been exposed to travel overseas.”

From April 1 to 29, the Tisdale RCMP responded to 101 calls for service, which is a decrease in overall calls. These included eight calls of impaired drivers, six calls under the Mental Health Act, and six traffic collisions.

The number of collisions is slightly lower than is average for the detachment, which Benjamin credits to fewer drivers on the road.
