TISDALE — As a way to remember him, an active member of the Tisdale community will have a street named after him.
The streets north of A&W, looping and coming out near the Dairy Queen in front of the RECplex will be called Terry Hale Way.
“It’s important because of the significant impact he had on the community for many years,” said Brad Hvidston, Tisdale’s town administrator.
Hale was a former businessman, hockey player and volunteer for the community. He was involved in building and re-building the baseball diamond in Tisdale where he donated time and money. He made ice for the curling rink and has led in the organization of the Ladies Scotties in 2016 and the Brier in 2017. He has held executive positions in every sport and service club activity he has been involved in, including the Tisdale Lions, the Riverside Golf Course and the Tisdale Community Curling Club. He died in July of 2018.
In 2017 he was presented with a Canada 150 medal as thanks for his outstanding effort in the Northeast as a volunteer.
The request to name the street after Hale was submitted by Ray Bansley.
“Terry was a businessman in the Town of Tisdale for over 50 years and volunteered for everything and coached just about every kid who went through Tisdale ball and hockey,” Bansley said. “So if there’s somebody who deserved recognition I guess Terry did. He worked hard in his community to make it a better place for his family. I don’t think there is much more you can ask of someone.”
Bansley first met Hale when Hale coached him in Midget hockey when Bansley was 15. He’s now 65.
“Our community knows everything they need to know about Terry, he was just that kind of guy,” Bansley said. “You don’t need to say much about Terry, he was just a good fellow.”
