A major fire involving heavy equipment took place at the North Battleford waste management facility Wednesday morning.

North Battleford Fire Fepartment responded around 8:45 a.m. to find a Caterpillar 973 crawler tractor on fire. The equipment was owned by K & B Environmental Services.

When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found both the engine and the cab compartments fully involved.

The operator of the tractor had tried using three fire extinguishers to put out the blaze with little success prior to the fire department's arrival.

According to the fire department, firefighters used a combination of foam and water to successfully extinguish the fire.

Fire crews put out the blaze quickly and stayed to make sure it didn't flare up again. One fire apparatus and three personnel responded to the scene and were there almost 40 minutes.

WPD Ambulance and the RCMP were also on hand.

Damage is estimated at around $30,000. There were no injuries.
