Traffic stop leads to arrest, trafficking and weapons charge

From the RCMP: Battleford RCMP conducted a traffic stop on 100 th Street in North Battleford shortly after midnight on July 15 th which has resulted in numerous charges against a male from Red Deer, Alberta.

Battleford RCMP conducted a traffic stop on 100th Street in North Battleford shortly after midnight on July 15th which has resulted in numerous charges against a male from Red Deer, Alberta.   The passenger in the vehicle fled on foot after he was found to be wanted on warrants from Alberta.  Members chased the male on foot and were able to take him into custody.  There was a brief struggle with the suspect and the taser was deployed to assist in affecting the arrest.  As a result of the arrest, police seized a knife, bear mace, several pre-packaged baggies of suspected cocaine and several other items of drug paraphernalia.    

Denver Deschampes, 20, of Red Deer, Alberta is facing charges which include Trafficking Cocaine, Resisting Arrest, Assaulting a Police Officer, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Possession of stolen property.  He remains in custody and is making his first appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court today at 930 am. 

The driver of the vehicle was also arrested but has since been released and is facing several Traffic related charges.
