Traffic stop leads to drug charges

RCMP are reporting a drug bust Friday in Maidstone.

Around 9 p.m., members from Maidstone Community Detachment with assistance of Lloydminster Rural Enhanced Traffic Unit stopped a 2004 Ford F 150 truckon the access road into Maidstone. Police had followed the vehicle for some time on Highway 16.

According to police, when they approached the vehicle an odour of fresh and burnt marijuana was detected. When questioned, the lone occupant, a female driver, said there was one ounce behind the seat andturned it over to police. The driver was then arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

A search of the truck revealed another bag of marijuana, weighing two ounces.Police also found paraphernalia, packaging materials, weigh scale, score sheets and a large amount of cash.

A25-year-old woman from Lloydminster, Alta. was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and driving without a valid/appropriate license. She will appear in Lloydminster Saskatchewan Provincial Court Tuesday, April 23. Her name is not being released pending further investigation.
