Treating health facilities

Prairie North Health Region is receiving $1.45 million for repairs to health care facilities and equipment upgrades.

The funding is part of the $133.1 million in health care system funding announced by Saskatchewan Minister of Health, Don McMorris, back in February.

"Infrastructure improvements are a necessary investment to keep pace with technological change and to repair and upgrade our health facilities," said McMorris.

Of the provincial funding, $750,000 provided for maintenance and infrastructure projects and repairs, with which PNHR will address high-priority projects.

The remaining $700,000 is earmarked for upgrading medical, diagnostic and safety equipment.

Lionel Chabot, PNHR vice president of Development and Operations, said a number of projects have been identified over the years and are being reviewed and placed in a priority sequence.

"This funding commitment assists us in checking off more items on our to-do list and our equipment wish list, which is excellent," said Chabot. "We are taking great care to identify the areas where infrastructure upgrades will provide the greatest benefit."

The $133.1 million also included $2.2 million for planning and development of the new long term care facility in Meadow Lake.
