Two people charged after a lengthy police investigation into organized crime in the Prince Albert area had more court appearances.
Jesse Dillon, 28, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, and Shania Yooya, 24, from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, were on the Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench pre-trial list Sept. 25. Their matters, however, were adjourned to Oct. 23 for possible resolution.
Dillon is facing charges of recruiting for a criminal organization, trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization, uttering threats for a criminal organization, and conspiracy to commit assault for a criminal organization.
Yooya is charged with trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization, uttering threats for a criminal organization, and conspiracy to commit assault for a criminal organization.
Dillon and Yooya are also charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.
The RCMP Crime Reduction Team launched an organized crime investigation in October 2019. Officers from Prince Albert RCMP Detachment, Prince Albert Police Service and Saskatoon Police Service assisted the gang unit in their investigation. Part of their investigation included a search of a residence on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation Feb. 12, which resulted in the seizure of a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, a replica handgun, a spear gun, and a quantity of suspected hydromorphone.
Police also arrested Raini Henderson from the Nipawin area, as well as Brennen Sanderson and Shannon Sanderson from Sturgeon Lake First Nation.
