Two people are dead and one injured following a single vehicle rollover on Highway 16 Saturday.

RCMP say a westbound vehicle was travelling from Birch Lake en route to Lloydminster when the driver lost control one kilometre east of the junction of Highways 16 and 21 at about 7:50 p.m. The vehicle rolled and the driver and a front seat passenger died after being ejected from the vehicle. A rear seat passenger was transported to Lloydminster Hospital.

Highway 16 east and westbound lanes were closed for more than eight hours as the investigation took place. Traffic was rerouted around the accident scene, police say.

Investigation into the crash continues, but RCMP report it is believed alcohol and speed were contributing factors.
