SHOAL LAKE CREE NATION — Two men were arrested after Carrot River RCMP investigated a series of serious assaults on Shoal Lake Cree Nation that resulted in two going to hospital.

RCMP said they received a report of a disturbance on Jan. 1 at approximately 8:50 p.m. They said their investigation determined that a series of physical altercations occurred between a group of individuals and that two men had been injured at a residence.

One man was transported to hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The other injured male had left the residence in a vehicle. Officers located the vehicle after it left the community and provided first aid until EMS arrived. The man was later transported to hospital in Saskatoon via STARS for what were described as serious injuries.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP arrested 25 year old Sonny Whitecap of Shoal Lake Cree Nation with assault causing bodily harm, assault, obstructing a peace officer and uttering threats, and 24 year old Denzel Head of Shoal Lake Cree Nation with aggravated assault.

Both were scheduled to make their first appearance in Melfort Provincial Court via phone on Jan. 4.
