Unity man accused of uttering threats makes first court appearance

NORTH BATTLEFORD – A 25-year-old Unity man accused of uttering death threats made his first appearance in court Thursday and was granted bail.

Patrick John Bruce Schapansky is scheduled to appear in Unity court Oct. 17 to enter a plea on two counts of uttering death threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose [knife], criminal harassment, and mischief under $5,000 by interfering with the lawful enjoyment of property.

Unity RCMP say they got a call early in the morning on Sept. 3 that a man was threatening people at a residence in Unity. Officers searched for the man who had left the home after police were called.

Throughout the morning, RCMP received multiple 911 calls about the same man going to other homes of people he knew while police were searching for him.

Cut Knife RCMP helped Unity RCMP locate Schapansky inside a home and he was held in custody after his arrest.

The charges against Schapansky haven’t been tested in court.

Story updated to say Schapansky was released on bail.
