Efforts to document the stories of Canada's veterans have made their way back to the Battlefords for another visit.
Veterans Voices of Canada returned June 20 to do more interviews with another half-dozen veterans, on the heels of interviews they did in late May on a previous visit to the community.
At that time, five local veterans were interviewed and shot on video in Battleford Legion No. 9 Hall.
The interviews become part of the Veterans Voices of Canada website and are also distributed to schools and museums across Canada. The goal is to document for historical purposes the experiences of those who served in Canada's military, including those who fought in the Second World War and the Korean War.
The videos were produced and shot by executive director and producer Allan Cameron. During his previous visit to the Battlefords, Cameron issued a call to any other area veterans to come forward and share their past experiences for his project.
Last week he told the News-Optimist those efforts have borne fruit. Some local veterans expressed interest and he was back in Battleford interviewing and shooting video of six more veterans for Veterans Voices of Canada.
Cameron, based in Sylvan Lake, Alta., adds he plans to follow up in September with another trip to the Battlefords as he has some more interviews set up at that time.
If any more local veterans are interested in taking part and sharing their stories with Veterans Voices of Canada, they can visit their website at www.vetvoicecan.org. Or they can email Cameron at [email protected].
